Motivation Monday: Rock the Vote

Alyson Campbell

In the adjustment of the new order of things, we women demand an equal voice; we shall accept nothing less.” - Carrie Chapman Catt

On this Motivation Monday, I want to urge you to get out and rock the vote. Did you know that women only received the right to vote in 1920, after a 72 year struggle?

The League of Women Voters was founded by Carrie Chapman Catt in 1920 during the convention of the National American Woman Suffrage Association, held just six months before the 19th amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified and it was the ground for this historic, and life changing movement.

As a woman in business and the CEO of my own company, I feel it is my duty to encourage you to register to vote if you haven't already, especially if you are a woman. But regardless, whether or not you're a woman or a man, young or old, you have a voice.  I've heard people say these type of things to me before, "I don't really need to because at the end of the day I live in this or that state which is already voting this way," or "It doesn't really matter at the end of the day as the electoral college will ultimately decide," or even, "I forgot to register to vote."   Are you kidding me?!  Do you know how many people would love to be in your shoes and how many people only dream of freedom and democracy?

Please don't stand idly by thinking you can't make a difference.  Remember, it only takes one and Carrie Chapman Catt proved this with her never give up attitude to change the U.S. Constitution.

This year's presidential election is on Tuesday, November 8 and the deadline to register or re-register to vote for any election is on the 15th calendar day before that election, so time is ticking away.  For California, you can simply go to, even from your smartphone or simply Google the state you live in to find your state's registration.  You can also go to any post office or library to pick up the necessary forms. Perhaps getting to a polling location is not conducive with your schedule or lifestyle - you can also opt to vote by mail.

So no excuses.

Get out and vote. The country is counting on YOU.
