When we think of health and wellness, we often combine them. We think achieving our goal weight will make us look and feel better therefore healthier and happier. But health and wellness don’t mean the same thing. We are all for self-care and in honor of International Self-Care day, we are focusing on health and wellness and the many benefits this will bring to our lives.
Wellness is the attitude we have towards the way we live. It is defined as “a positive approach to living.” When trying to achieve wellness, it requires a state of mental capability to handle the changes we will be making to our lifestyle.
To achieve that positive approach to living we need to do 2 things:
1. Embrace Mental Exercises
Practice yoga or do any physical activity that will challenge you mentally and physically. This will help promote a better attitude towards living.
2. Take a Day of Rest
Take time to relax, breathe. Do something spontaneous or plan a weekend trip that you can look forward to. Do small things that you love on your day of rest, this day is all about you.
Defined by the World Health Organization, “health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” Wellness has a direct influence on your overall health and therefore is essential if we are trying to live a better life.
Although health and wellness may have different concepts, we can’t have one without the other.
Take care – welcome health AND wellness!
