Thoughtful Thursday: What's New in Food?

Summer is here, and we’re giving a lot of thought to what we’re eating this upcoming July 4th holiday.

Food Insider listed the top 20 food trends on their site and we’ve chosen just a few of our favorites:

1.       Local, artisan ice cream & gelato made with farmer’s markets ingredients

We love ice cream for the summer, but we also love to know that no cheap or artificial ingredients are being used in making it. Look for locally made artisan ice cream or gelato in your neighborhood made with fresh, local ingredients daily.  One of our faves? Gelateria Uli.

2.      Homemade Condiments

Most people have been taking their health into their own hands. From organic vegetables to homemade condiments, people have been eating more at home. Store-bought condiments are full of sodium and sugar, so why not experiment and make a great dressing right at home?

3.       Non-Traditional Cuts of Meat (or Alternative “Meat” Sources)

This is the top trend of 2018. Although 2017 we saw a rise in the plant-based diet, new cuts of meat have been introduced into the restaurant industry: shoulder tender, oyster steak, Vegas strip steak, and Merlot cut. Not a meat eater?  The new Impossible Burger is making waves across the country and it’s made entirely of plants.
