Welcome Wednesday brings us trend update: the micro bag.
It has been seen taking over street fashion. Social media has mostly been driving the trend, along with skinny sunglasses and tiny heels. Rihanna first introduced the fanny pack trend back at the beginning of 2017 and has now been seen all over the internet with the micro bag.
The Guardian highlighted the “IT” bag of the season, as it has been trying to make its comeback for years but remains exclusive to those who can buy it first. Gucci, Fendi, Chloe, and more have made their way on to the high streets and have been sold out ever since. These small bags, mini sunglasses, and tiny heels have outnumbered the oversized trend on the Spring/Summer 2018 catwalks.
Sara McAlpine, editor of Elle, describes the trend-wearers as “she only moves between the office and appointments. She doesn’t carry make-up. But secretly, she is keen to keep up appearances – to look like she’s in control when perhaps she’s not.”
McAlpine also states, there will always be a “secret second bag” – a tote, filled with books, journals, and makeup, stuffed keenly underneath the desk.
Mini bags might be hot, but the pricing is the reason they are kept exclusive.
Vogue states, “an It bag is an It bag only if you’re unlikely to possess it.”
